The development of a voice filled with confidence and presence, adaptable to context, able to reflect your authentic self while maintaining authority and clearly communicating your message.
What can I help with?
Approach
Holistic, integrative and creative. What does this mean?
That I view you and all my clients as an integrated whole with interrelated experiences of body, mind, physiology and psychology.
That I consider the intersectionality of your and all my clients' affective and cognitive, physical and spiritual experiences and beliefs.
That I integrate theories, concepts and techniques from different voice training and psychological and therapeutic approaches to ensure the needs of each individual are being met.
That I work both personally and professionally to bring my authentic, responsive and creative abilities into our working relationship.
That research informs my practice and a reflective evaluation of my practice informs my research, which includes the preparation I do for each client and informs my ongoing professional development through continued training.
I work, in particular, with the Accent Method and Linklater's approach to a Free Natural Voice, as well as Conversation Analysis and the creative use of the arts to support you to communicate your message with clarity and confidence. Through physical and narrative storytelling and attention to vocal and performance technique, I will support you to embody your voice and to present as the strong, authoritative leader you are and imagine yourself to be.
We will work according to your goals and context but, whatever your goals and whatever the context of the communication you want to improve, you will develop a stronger professional presence, clearer and more confident voice, and strategies to support you to remain grounded and focused on your strengths and capabilities regardless of the contextual stakes and stresses.
I can work with you to improve both your experience and use of your own voice. I can help you to hone and develop your technical skills, improve your breathwork, presence and confidence. With use of the arts, I can support you to develop a more creative approach to work, life, relationship-building and problem-solving.
I take an integrative, person-centered approach to supporting people to improve their confidence, their voice use, their relationships. A trained vocal presence coach, as well as a therapeutic arts coach, my work is underpinned by a background in physical and vocal storytelling as a former performer and singer and in narrative and non-fiction storytelling as a former in-house editor. My research has examined vocal emotion communication and the impact of attachment style and relationships on voice use and I am Senior Lecturer at Voice Study Centre.
Humans are social and our nervous systems are relational. This means we react to our surroundings and are impacted, affected, moved by the people we encounter. Social situations are always high stakes, which doesn't mean they are necessarily either good or bad just that they are always meaningful.
In those social situations our energy, attitude, feelings and emotions show up. They present in our behaviour - whether as enthusiasm, excitement, anger, anxiety, fear, curiosity, and so on. Your voice will reveal your feelings. No matter how hard you work on the message and its content, it's the expression in your breath and in the pitch and melody and rhythm of the sounds you make that will resonate most clearly with your listener or audience.
Voice exists only to express, and words exist only to be understood by humans. Voice is at the heart of all communications. Don't let it be the last thing you work on.
