Creative Vocal Coaching

for confident, powerful communication

Picture
Sophie Scott is a Creative Vocal Coach working with clients to discover and work with the power of voice and conversation.

Over time, clients develop ever clearer and more confident communication, embodied in their voice and positively impacting their authenticity, authority, and relationships.

This is your story, your voice.

A Personal Approach

Picture

Holistic

All clients are considered as individuals in all their multiplicity, bringing their own experiences, aims, and ways of working.
Picture

Integrative

Theory and practice are woven together, with careful attention to techniques and strategies to support client's goals and needs.
Picture

Creative

Voice and communication are inherently creative. The work is dynamic and emboldening to support creative and lasting authentic authority.

Areas of work

Clients include senior leaders and their teams in corporate and professional services, management and teaching staff in higher education, with a focus on professional public performance and presentation. I readily support the increasing presence of women in leadership roles, through mastery of their vocal delivery and presence.

Supporting clients across all areas of vocal professional development, areas for work may include:
  • Authority & Authenticity in professional relationships
  • Opening & Closing Statements
  • Presentations & Conferences
  • Challenging Conversations
  • Improved Audience Engagement
  • Prosody, Rhythm, and Vocal Pace

We will be guided by your goals and context but, whatever your goals and whatever the context of the communication you want to improve, you will develop a stronger professional presence, clearer and more confident voice, and strategies to support you to remain grounded and focused on your strengths and capabilities regardless of the contextual stakes and stresses.

Humans are social and our nervous systems are relational. This means we react to our surroundings and are impacted, affected, moved by the people we encounter. Social situations are always high stakes, which doesn't mean they are necessarily either good or bad just that they are always meaningful. Research shows that voice use can immeasurably harm or improve a situation.

Voice exists only to express, and words exist only to be understood by humans. Voice is at the heart of all communications. Don't let it be the last thing you work on.
I can work with you to improve both your experience and use of your own voice. I can help you to hone and develop your technical skills, improve your breathwork, presence and confidence. With use of the arts, I can support you to develop a more creative approach to work, life, relationship-building and problem-solving.

I take an integrative, person-centered approach to supporting people to improve their confidence, their voice use, their relationships. A trained vocal presence coach, as well as a therapeutic arts coach, my work is underpinned by a background in physical and vocal storytelling as a former performer and singer and in narrative and non-fiction storytelling as a former in-house editor. My research has examined vocal emotion communication and the impact of attachment style and relationships on voice use and I am Senior Lecturer at Voice Study Centre.

In those social situations our energy, attitude, feelings and emotions show up. They present in our behaviour - whether as enthusiasm, excitement, anger, anxiety, fear, curiosity, and so on. Your voice will reveal your feelings. No matter how hard you work on the message and its content, it's the expression in your breath and in the pitch and melody and rhythm of the sounds you make that will resonate most clearly with your listener or audience.

I work both in-person and online. For ongoing training or one-off sessions and to discover more please get in touch.

Talk exists only to be understood by humans.

Your voice is all you need.
